When The National announced that they were holding a two day festival in Cincinnati on the weekend of our 29th wedding anniversary, we knew we had to be there. We also bought tickets to the opening event to be held at the Masonic Center, with appearances by The Dessners, Big Red Machine, Lisa Hannigan, Sam Amidon and more.
We flew out on Friday, checked in to our room which had a view of Smale Park, where the festival was being held. After a few beverages on the beautiful rooftop bar at our hotel, we went out for a quick dinner and then on to the Masonic Center. We passed by The Taft Theatre on our way, and saw that we had the option to see Rick Astley on our anniversary rather than see Boxer in entirety. Needless to say, we did not get rickrolled.
After the show, we walked back to Smale Park to see them finish the setup for the following day. Then it was back up to the rooftop bar for a few more drinks before they kicked us out at last call.
